Grinnell Man Claims $250,000 Mega Millions® Prize

Michael Sims Wins Prize In May 17 Drawing

DES MOINES, Iowa - A Grinnell man started off his week by claiming a $250,000 Mega Millions prize on Monday.

Michael Sims won his prize in the May 17 drawing of the Mega Millions game, matching the first five numbers but missing the Mega Ball number to win a $250,000 prize. Sims bought his winning ticket at Fareway, 727 West St. in Grinnell.

The winning numbers in that night's $190 million Mega Millions drawing were: 11-15-35-43-49 and Mega Ball 41. The Megaplier® number was 4. Sims didn't add the Megaplier option to his ticket, which would have multiplied his prize to $1 million.

Players can multiply their prizes (except the jackpot) with the Megaplier up to four times. The cost is $1 per play.

Sims' ticket was just one number away from having a share of the $190 million jackpot, which was split that night by two tickets - one purchased in New Jersey and the other in Virginia. The Mega Millions jackpot stands at an estimated $21 million for Tuesday night's drawing.

Powerball® and Mega Millions are both lotto games with jackpot prizes that have climbed into the hundreds of millions of dollars. But while Powerball's drawings are on Wednesdays and Saturdays, the Mega Millions drawings are on Tuesdays and Fridays.
