Daniel Woodford Claims Top Prize in 'Money Multiplier' Scratch Game
DES MOINES, Iowa - A Cedar Rapids man went to buy a gallon of milk for his mother before dinner, bought a few scratch tickets to pass the time and ended up winning a $10,000 lottery prize.
"It was the very first number I scratched off. And I didn't think anything of it. I just thought maybe I just got my money back with the $2. And then I seen the 10. 'Alright, I got $10,'" Daniel Woodford explained. "And I kept going and it said there were three more zeros behind it. I was like, 'No way. No way.' My heart just started pounding."
Woodford claimed the first of 13 top prizes of $10,000 available in the Iowa Lottery's new "Money Multiplier" instant-scratch game.
"It was actually my mom's idea to go up and just get something to drink. So I mean, I must have to give her some of the credit," Woodford laughed. "I'll definitely be taking them out for dinner. That's for sure."
Woodford, 28, claimed his prize Monday at the Iowa Lottery's regional office in Cedar Rapids. He said he headed for that office as soon as he finished his shift at Captain Clean, a local industrial cleaning company. He purchased his winning ticket at Casey's, 508 N. Elm St. in Jefferson.
Woodford said he plans to use the winnings to make some needed repairs to his vehicle and also take a dream vacation.
"I've just been thinking about maybe going overseas for a vacation," he said. "I've always been wanting to go to Ireland. So I think I might do that."
Money Multiplier is a $2 scratch game. Players win a prize by matching any of "your numbers" to the "winning numbers" and win the prize shown for that number. If a player finds a "2X", "4X" or a "5X" symbol, they win any prize won in that row multiplied by any multiplier bonus symbol they revealed. The overall odds of winning a prize in the game are 1 in 3.56.
Twelve top prizes of $10,000 are still up for grabs in Money Multiplier, along with more than 200 prizes of $200 and 341 prizes of $100.Return to top↑
