Sara Dollen Wins Top Prize Playing the "Bingo Boxes" Scratch Game
DES MOINES, Iowa - A Council Bluffs woman just couldn't believe she'd won a $25,000 lottery prize.
"I checked it and then I seen it. And then I checked it again and I put it in my purse," Sara Dollen explained. "I pulled it out and I checked it again and then I put it in my purse."
Dollen claimed the second of 24 top prizes of $25,000 available in the Iowa Lottery's new "Bingo Boxes" instant-scratch game.
Dollen said she received the scratch ticket as a gift from her friend, Matia Giessinger, because she knows Dollen enjoys playing lottery scratch games.
"It was just me and her. And I did a Crossword first and then I did the Bingo," Dollen said. "And I don't usually do Bingos."
Dollen, 27, claimed her prize Tuesday at the lottery's regional office in Council Bluffs. Her friend purchased the winning ticket at Bucky's Express, 3501 W. Broadway in Council Bluffs.
Dollen said she and her husband, Isaac Whitney, aren't sure how they'll spend their winnings just yet.
"I have no idea, actually," she said. "I want to go to Vegas."
Bingo Boxes is a $2 scratch game. Players try to win a prize by matching numbers in any complete horizontal, vertical or diagonal line, four corners, an "X" pattern or all four numbers in the shaded box patterns in the play area on each ticket. The overall odds of winning a prize in the game are 1 in 3.78.
Twenty-two top prizes of $25,000 are still up for grabs in Bingo Boxes, as well as 45 prizes of $2,500, 43 prizes of $1,000 and hundreds of prizes of $500, $250 and $150.Return to top↑
