DES MOINES, Iowa - A $10,000-winning lottery scratch ticket was sold in Onawa on Friday.

Brad Barbre of Columbus, Neb., claimed the first of 10 prizes of $10,000 available in the Iowa Lottery's "Blazing Hot 7s Game Book" instant-scratch game.

"[We were] heading back home; we're working by Onawa," said Barbre, who is a steel foreman at Bierman Contracting, Inc. "So I cashed one in, got that one and was scratching it all the way back to Nebraska."

Barbre claimed his prize Monday at the Iowa Lottery's regional office in Council Bluffs. He purchased his winning ticket at Petro Mart, 2650 Iowa Ave. in Onawa.

"I figured, what the heck. I'm not driving. It'll entertain me for a while," Barbre said.

After seeing how much he'd won, Barbre called his wife, Tammy.

"She didn't believe me," he said.

Barbre, 46, said he plans to use his winnings to get caught up and fix some things.

Blazing Hot 7s Game Book, a $20 instant-scratch ticket, is the second game book product offered by the lottery. Each ticket in the game is actually a booklet with multiple games spread across six pages. The game's top prize is $100,000 and players can win multiple times in each booklet.

Blazing Hot 7s Game Book tickets will be void if any pages are separated from the book. The overall odds of winning a prize in the game are 1 in 2.52.

Nine top prizes of $100,000 are still up for grabs in Blazing Hot 7s Game Book, along with nine prizes of $10,000, 467 prizes of $1,000 and thousands of prizes from $75 to $500.
