DES MOINES, Iowa - A Waterloo woman was pretty excited to win a $25,000 lottery prize just weeks before starting classes at Hawkeye Community College.

Maegan O'Brien, 22, claimed the fifth of 24 top prizes of $25,000 available in the Iowa Lottery's new "Bingo Boxes" instant-scratch game. She claimed her prize Friday at the lottery's regional office in Cedar Rapids.

"It's not every minute (of) everyday someone wins $25,000," O'Brien said.

O'Brien said she normally plays "Crossword," but on a whim decided to buy a "Bingo Boxes" scratch ticket at Kwik Star, 707 Broadway Street, in Waterloo.

"I went home and I scratched it and I was looking and I almost bypassed it and I'm like, 'Oh, wow, there's the 'x', there's $25,000,'" she said.

O'Brien said she's only told her boyfriend and his mother her good news.

"I'll tell everyone after it's in my bank account," she said.

O'Brien said she plans to use her winnings to purchase a reliable car and move into her own place.

Bingo Boxes is a $2 scratch game. Players try to win a prize by matching numbers in any complete horizontal, vertical or diagonal line, four corners, an "X" pattern or all four numbers in the shaded box patterns in the play area on each ticket. The overall odds of winning a prize in the game are 1 in 3.78.

Nineteen top prizes of $25,000 are still up for grabs in Bingo Boxes, as well as 42 prizes of $2,500, 38 prizes of $1,000 and hundreds of prizes of $500, $250 and $150.
