Dunlap Man Wins $30,000 Top Prize Playing 'Let It Snow Crossword' Game

DES MOINES, Iowa - A western Iowa man knew he had a winning "Let It Snow Crossword" instant-scratch ticket, but he wanted to wait until he received his lottery prize before he started to celebrate.

"I always thought something was going to happen, something is not going to be right," said Fred McBath of Dunlap.

McBath, 58, claimed the third of 33 top prizes of $30,000 available in the lottery's Let It Snow Crossword game. He claimed his prize Friday at the lottery's regional office in Council Bluffs.

McBath purchased his winning ticket Oct. 10 at Casey's, 1608 Fourth Ave. S. in Denison. He told his girlfriend and his co-workers at Union Pacific Railroad the good news the same day.

"Of course on the railroad the guys knew it before I could even tell them because cell phones now days," McBath said. "Everybody started calling everybody."

McBath said he plans to use his lottery winnings to pay some bills.

Let It Snow Crossword is a $3 scratch game. Players win a prize by uncovering at least three complete words in the ticket's puzzle. If a player uncovers 10 words, he/she wins $30,000. The overall odds of winning a prize in the game are 1 in 3.82.

Twenty-nine top prizes of $30,000 are still up for grabs in Let It Snow Crossword, as well as 44 prizes of $3,000, 649 prizes of $300 and thousands of prizes of $100.

Players can enter nonwinning Let It Snow Crossword scratch tickets online in the Gifts Galore Play It Again® promotion, which offers 310 Sony® electronics and cash prizes. When a player enters an eligible nonwinning scratch ticket in Gifts Galore, he or she will receive one entry in the drawing for the corresponding Sony® electronic or cash prize category.
