DES MOINES, Iowa When double-checking his winning scratch ticket, a Granger man discovered he'd won a lot more than he originally thought.

Joe Fuson, 55, said he uncovered a 10th complete word when double-checking his "Let It Snow Crossword" ticket, which meant he won a $30,000 top prize, instead of $3,000.

"I actually had nine (words) and I saw I missed an 'a' on the 10th word," he said. "It was like, 'Oh good God!' Then I started shaking."

Fuson took his winning ticket to an Iowa Lottery retailer to confirm he had won a $30,000 top prize before he started to celebrate.

"It's believable, but it's hard to understand," he said. "That's just a lot of money to somebody like me."

Fuson, who works as a counselor at Woodward Academy, claimed his prize Thursday at the lottery's headquarters in Des Moines. He purchased his winning ticket at Casey's, 906 S. Main St. in Woodward.

Fuson said his lottery winnings will be used to purchase a newer car and for a 21st birthday celebration in Las Vegas for his son this summer.
