Robert Daniels Wins First Top Prize in 'X-Treme Winnings' Scratch Game
DES MOINES, Iowa - A Fort Dodge man used the money he had previously won on instant-scratch tickets to purchase an "X-Treme Winnings" ticket and ended up winning a big lottery prize.
Robert Daniels said he went home and scratched off his ticket and couldn't believe he had won the first of eight top prizes of $30,000 available in the X-Treme Winnings game.
Daniels, a self-employed contractor and school bus driver for the Fort Dodge School District, said he knew he had a winning ticket, but he didn't know how much he had won until he finished scratching it.
"I got down with two (numbers) left. I said, 'I only need a 45.' Well, I scratched the 45 and then I went, 'I had to screw up somewhere!'" he said.
Daniels said he double-checked his winning ticket several times. He also had it double-checked at the retailer where he bought the ticket - The Station, 2320 N. 15th St. in Fort Dodge.
"We didn't believe it so we had to go check it," he said. "(I) couldn't believe it. Still hasn't sunk in yet."
Daniels claimed his prize Tuesday at the Iowa Lottery's headquarters in Des Moines. He said his lottery winnings will be used to finish remodeling his kitchen.
X-Treme Winnings is a $3 scratch game. Players scratch the "X-Numbers," then scratch all the numbers in each game that exactly match any of the "X-Numbers." If a player matches all of the numbers in any game, he/she wins the prize for that game. The overall odds of winning a prize in the game are 1 in 3.76.
Seven top prizes of $30,000 are still up for grabs in X-Treme Winnings, as well as 25 prizes of $1,000, 25 prizes of $500 and hundreds of prizes between $100 and $200.Return to top↑
