Dovie Shuffler Wins Top Prize Playing the "Bingo Boxes" Scratch Game
DES MOINES, Iowa - A southeast Iowa woman knew she had a winning "Bingo Boxes" instant-scratch ticket, but she didn't know how much she had won until she finished scratching it.
"I could tell something was going to win because within six numbers you can tell if you're going to get anything or not," said Dovie Shuffler of Birmingham.
Shuffler, 52, said she scratched off one more number and completed an 'X' pattern on one of the shaded box areas of her ticket, giving her the eighth of 24 top prizes of $25,000 available in the game.
Shuffler, purchased her winning ticket at Jet Stop, 121 Iowa Highway 1 in Birmingham. She said she went back to that convenience store to have her ticket double-checked before she claimed her prize Jan. 21 at the lottery's regional office in Cedar Rapids.
Shuffler said she shared her good news with her husband, Ricky, on the way to claim her prize.
Shuffler said she will use her lottery winnings to purchase some medical equipment.
Bingo Boxes is a $2 scratch game.
