Corey Bickford Wins Top Prize in New 'Make My Week™' Scratch Game
DES MOINES, Iowa - An eastern Iowa man purchased some instant-scratch tickets on a suggestion from a co-worker and ended up winning a $10,000 prize.
Corey Bickford of Maquoketa said he purchased two of the Iowa Lottery's new "Make My Week™" scratch tickets at Lens BP, 901 W. Platt St. in Maquoketa, and scratched them off in the parking lot.
"The first one, I didn't win anything," Bickford, 44, said. "The second one, I hit it. I started shaking. I thought I was reading it wrong so I signed it and went in and had them check it."
Bickford claimed the fourth of eight top prizes of $10,000 available in the Make My Week™ game. He claimed his prize Friday at the lottery's regional office in Cedar Rapids.
Bickford, who works at a manufacturing plant, said he first shared his good news with the co-worker who suggested that he buy the Make My Week™ game; then he told his parents.
"I just never won anything like this in my life," he said. "Feeling pretty luck today, I guess."
Bickford said he will use his lottery winnings to pay bills.
The lottery's Make My Week™ game is part of a series of games that have a similar look, feel and gameplay, but vary in size, cost and prizes offered. The price point and top prize increase with the length of time indicated in the game's name. For example, players can win up to $10,000 playing the $2 Make My Week™ game, but can win up to $100,000 playing the $10 Make My Year™ game. A $1 Make My Day™ ticket and a $5 Make My Month™ ticket are part of the same series of games. Players scratch the "stars" in the playing area on each ticket and match game symbols to win prizes.
Four top prizes of $10,000 are still up for grabs in Make My Week™, as well as 261 prizes of $300 and hundreds of prizes of $150.Return to top↑
