Lori Niedert Wins Her Second Top Prize of $50,000 in Seven Months
DES MOINES, Iowa - The Iowa Lottery's "Super Crossword" instant-scratch game has been very good to a Waterloo woman who has now claimed two top prizes of $50,000.
Lori Niedert, 57, claimed the 27th of 34 top prizes of $50,000 available in the Super Crossword game. Niedert, no stranger to winning lottery prizes, claimed her first $50,000 top prize in the same Super Crossword game in June 2013.
Niedert said she purchased her latest winning ticket Jan. 25 at Casey's, 5202 Lafayette Road in Elk Run Heights. She said she didn't initially know that she had won a $50,000 top prize.
"First I thought it was a $5,000 winner, which would have been OK too," she said. "I didn't count 10 words right away."
Niedert said she double-checked her ticket and found another complete word and that with it meant she'd won a much bigger prize than she originally thought.
"I missed the word 'off.' I'm like, 'Oh, my goodness it's another word. You've got to be kidding me,'" she said.
Niedert claimed her prize Monday at the lottery's regional office in Cedar Rapids.
Niedert and her husband, Boyd, plan to use the lottery winnings to purchase a gazebo and finish repairs to their home.
Niedert said she can't pinpoint the reason for her recent winning streak.
"I just think I'm one heck of a lucky lady," she said.
Super Crossword is a $5 scratch game. Players win a prize by uncovering at least three complete words in either puzzle or the complete bonus word in the play area on each ticket. The overall odds of winning a prize in the game are 1 in 3.69.
Seven top prizes of $50,000 are still up for grabs in Super Crossword, as well as 17 prizes of $5,000, 32 prizes of $500 and 250 prizes of $100.Return to top↑
