Justin Huber Wins $30,000 Top Prize in 'X-Treme Winnings' Scratch Game
DES MOINES, Iowa - A southern Iowa man said his high school football jersey number ended up being his lucky lottery charm.
Justin Huber of Albia said he purchased an "X-Treme Winnings" instant-scratch ticket Feb. 4 at Casey's, 1117 S. Clinton St. in Albia, and scratched it off the same day. He ended up winning the third of eight top prizes of $30,000 available in the game.
"I need a '45' to win - that was my old football number," Huber told lottery employees as he claimed his prize Wednesday at the lottery's headquarters in Des Moines. "I (scratched) it off and sure enough it was '45'. I had to do a double-take and sure enough I won $30,000!"
Huber, a teacher and coach at Albia High School, said news of his big lottery win spread quickly.
"I had a lot of people call me and ask me which (Casey's) it was," he said.
Huber said he plans to use his lottery winnings to pay bills and help with expenses on the family farm, where he works part-time with his Dad.
X-Treme Winnings is a $3 scratch game. Players scratch the "X-Numbers," then scratch all the numbers in each game that exactly match any of the "X-Numbers." If a player matches all of the numbers in any game, he/she wins the prize for that game. The overall odds of winning a prize in the game are 1 in 3.76.
Five top prizes of $30,000 are still up for grabs in X-Treme Winnings, as well as 19 prizes of $1,000, 20 prizes of $500 and hundreds of prizes between $100 and $200.Return to top↑
