DES MOINES, Iowa - A southeast Iowa woman said she checked her winning instant-scratch ticket multiple times before she started to believe she had won a $30,000 top prize.

Ardith Greenlee, 48, of Washington, claimed the second of 86 top prizes of $30,000 available in the Iowa Lottery's newest "Crossword" game. She claimed her prize Tuesday at the lottery's regional office in Cedar Rapids.

"Well of course you freak out at first because you think, 'Oh, my gosh! I scratched off a letter I shouldn't have!'" she said. "So then you sit there and you doubt yourself, so you double-check yourself."

Greenlee said she took her winning ticket back to the retailer where she bought it on Feb. 14 - Kum & Go, 1178 Enterprise Drive in Riverside - to confirm she had won a $30,000 prize. She said she then waited for better weather before claiming her prize.

"I kind of let myself forget about it a little bit," she said. "And then it's like, 'Ok. It's nice today. Let's go!'"

Greenlee, who works at the Iowa City VA Medical Center, said she still hasn't decided how she and her husband, David, will use the lottery winnings.

Crossword is a $3 scratch game. Players win a prize by uncovering at least three complete words in the ticket's puzzle. If a player uncovers 10 words, he/she wins $30,000. The overall odds of winning a prize in the game are 1 in 3.82.

Eighty-three top prizes of $30,000 are still up for grabs in Crossword (game #805), as well as 125 prizes of $3,000 and thousands of prizes of $300 and $100.
