Daphne Battey Claims Top Prize in 'Money Multiplier' Scratch Game
DES MOINES, Iowa - A Marshalltown woman decided to purchase an instant-scratch ticket while waiting in line at a local convenience store and the decision paid off.
Daphne Battey, 51, said she scratched off her "Money Multiplier" ticket when she got to work Tuesday and thought she won a prize since she matched a pair of numbers.
"So I scratched it off and I said, 'Hey, it says seven. I think I might be a winner,'" Battey said.
She said she had someone she works with at Thomas L. Cardella & Associates in Marshalltown double-check her winning ticket before she started to celebrate.
"I'm like, 'Hey, do you think I won?'" Battey asked a co-worker. "The girl that sits next to me goes, 'Yeah, you just won $10,000!' And I'm like, 'Get out of here!'"
Battey claimed the seventh of 13 top prizes of $10,000 available in the Money Multiplier game. She purchased her winning ticket at Kwik Star, 2500 S. Center St. in Marshalltown.
Battey was still in disbelief when she claimed her prize the same day at the lottery's headquarters in Des Moines.
"I think the most I ever won has ben $25, so this was like, 'Wow!'" she said. "I'm still wow!"
Battey said she plans to pay bills and have fun with her lottery winnings.
Money Multiplier is a $2 scratch game. Players try to match any of "your numbers" to the "winning numbers" to win the prize shown for that number. If a player finds a "2X", "4X" or a "5X" symbol, they win any prize won in that row multiplied by any multiplier bonus symbol they revealed. The overall odds of winning a prize in the game are 1 in 3.56.
Six top prizes of $10,000 are still up for grabs in Money Multiplier, along with 98 prizes of $200 and 176 prizes of $100.Return to top↑
