DES MOINES, Iowa - A Black Hawk County woman said she went to a local convenience store for some supplies before a recent snowstorm and decided to buy a "Crossword" instant-scratch ticket as well.

The decision paid off for JoAnna Dundee of Buckingham, as she claimed the fourth of 86 top prizes of $30,000 available in the game. Dundee said she purchased her winning ticket Feb. 19 at Casey's, 402 U.S. Hwy. 218 N. in La Porte City and scratched it off in the parking lot.

"I'm scratching it off and in the process of doing so I'm thinking, 'Wait a minute, there's still more words,'" she said. "And as I got going sure enough there were 10 words and I about hyperventilated."

Dundee, 41, said she went back into the store to have her winning ticket double-checked before she started to celebrate.

"All I could do was start crying," Dundee said.

Dundee, who works at Sunrise Hill Care and Rehab Center in Traer, went home and shared her good news with her husband, Brad.

"He was speechless," she said. "He couldn't believe that I actually won it."

Dundee claimed her prize Friday at the lottery's regional office in Cedar Rapids. She said her lottery winnings will be used for vehicle repairs.
