Angie Pliner Wins $30,000 Top Prize Playing 'Crossword' Scratch Game
DES MOINES, Iowa - A Webster County woman said she scratched off her instant-scratch ticket while waiting for a family member to return to the car and couldn't believe what she saw.
"They came back to the car and asked me, 'Did you win?'" Angie Pliner of Otho said. "I said, 'I don't know, I need you to check this.'"
Pliner, 35, claimed the seventh of 86 top prizes of $30,000 available in the Iowa Lottery's newest "Crossword" game. She said she purchased her winning ticket Saturday at Casey's, 235 Avenue O in Fort Dodge, and took it back there to double-check before she started to celebrate.
"I think I was in shock, I was very quiet," Pliner told lottery employees as she claimed her prize Tuesday at the lottery's headquarters in Des Moines.
Once it was confirmed that she had a $30,000-winning ticket, Pliner said she shared her good news with family and friends. Pliner said her family believed her, but her friends didn't.
"They didn't (believe me) because I've pulled tricks before on them," she said. "So it took a little bit to get them convinced."
Pliner, who works in finance at a manufacturing company, said she plans to pay bills and save a majority of her lottery winnings.
