Terry Poley Wins $100,000 Top Prize Playing the "Double Dollar Fortune" Scratch Game
DES MOINES, Iowa - A northeast Iowa man said he wasn't having any luck playing the "Double Dollar Fortune" scratch game, but he decided to try it one more time.
The decision paid off for Terry Poley of New Albin, who claimed the seventh of eight top prizes of $100,000 in the game.
"I bought two before and I lost on them, so I thought I'd give it one more chance," Poley said. "I just took it home and I was having a little glass of wine. I scratched that $100,000 and just about swallowed the glass."
Poley, who is retired, purchased his winning ticket April 15 at Wuennecke's City Meat, 199 Railroad Ave. in New Albin. He claimed his prize Wednesday at the Iowa Lottery's regional office in Cedar Rapids.
"All I could see was those little bitty zeroes when I was sleeping," he said.
The 66-year-old said his lottery winnings will be used for retirement. He also said he plans to share some of his winnings with family and friends.
Double Dollar Fortune is a $10 scratch game. Players scratch the "lucky numbers" and "your numbers." If any of "your numbers" match the "lucky numbers," the player wins the prize shown. If a player uncovers a "2X" symbol, they win double the prize shown. The overall odds of winning a prize in the game are 1 in 2.62.
One top prize of $100,000 is still up for grabs in Double Dollar Fortune, as well as nine prizes of $5,000, 110 prizes of $500, 159 prizes of $200 and hundreds of prizes of $100.Return to top↑
