Nancy Sheridan Wins Big Prize in 'Make My Year™' Scratch Game
DES MOINES, Iowa - A northeast Iowa woman said she tried a new instant-scratch game instead of her usual one, and the decision paid off.
Nancy Sheridan of Harpers Ferry purchased a "Make My Year™" scratch ticket April 13 at Kwik Star, 301 Main St. in Lansing and ended up winning the fourth of eight prizes of $10,000 available in the game.
"I had won $50 on 'Make My Month™' and thought, 'Instead of another $5 one, I'm going to buy the $10 'Make My Year,'" Sheridan told lottery employees as she claimed her prize Wednesday at the lottery's regional office in Cedar Rapids.
Sheridan said she went out to the car and started scratching her ticket while her husband paid for gas.
"I see these zeroes and I'm thinking, 'Oh, this can't be!'" she said. "I kept rubbing the card thinking, 'There's got to be ink on here or something.'"
Sheridan is a retired teacher and works part-time as a spot welder at Kol Gol, Inc. in Waukon. She said her lottery winnings will be given as a wedding gift to her daughter and future son-in-law. The couple is getting married next year, and they are in the process of purchasing a house in Colorado.
The lottery's Make My Year game is part of a series of games that have a similar look, feel and gameplay, but vary in size, cost and prizes offered. The price point and top prize increase with the length of time indicated in the game's name. For example, players can win up to $50,000 playing the $5 Make My Month game, but can win up to $100,000 playing the $10 Make My Year game. A $1 Make My Day™ ticket and a $2 Make My Week™ ticket are part of the same series of games. Players scratch the "stars" in the playing area on each ticket and match game symbols to win prizes.
Three top prizes of $100,000 are still up for grabs in Make My Year, as well as four prizes of $10,000, 156 prizes of $1,000 and thousands of prizes of $300 and $100.Return to top↑
