DES MOINES, Iowa - A northeast Iowa man decided to buy a "Make My Year" instant-scratch ticket because he'd had some luck on it recently.

His luck certainly continued, as he claimed the fourth of six top prizes of $100,000 available in that game.

Kyle Moschel, 31, purchased his winning ticket Saturday at Smokin' Joe's, 465 S. Highway 965 in North Liberty. Moschel is from Hawkeye, but is in the process of moving to North Liberty. He said he scratched off his ticket and was in disbelief.

"I sat there and stared at it about a thousand different times," Moschel told lottery employees as he claimed his prize Monday at the lottery's regional office in Cedar Rapids. "Got told to leave it alone otherwise I was going to wear it out."

He said both his girlfriend and his family didn't believe him when he told them he had won.

Moschel owns a business that specializes in refurbishing wheels - Hawkeye Illusions and Wheel Repair - and his winnings will be used to expand his business.

The Iowa Lottery's Make My Year game is part of a series of games that have a similar look, feel and gameplay, but vary in size, cost and prizes offered. The price point and top prize increase with the length of time indicated in the game's name. For example, players can win up to $50,000 playing the $5 Make My Month™ game, but can win up to $100,000 playing the $10 Make My Year game. A $1 Make My Day™ ticket and a $2 Make My Week™ ticket are part of the same series of games. Players scratch the "stars" in the playing area on each ticket and match game symbols to win prizes.

Two top prizes of $100,000 are still up for grabs in Make My Year, as well as four prizes of $10,000, 144 prizes of $1,000 and thousands of prizes of $300 and $100.
