DES MOINES, Iowa - A western Iowa man recently checked several Powerball tickets from drawings last month and discovered he had won a $10,000 prize.

"I usually just throw them in my car," Wes Clay of Harlan said. "They just sit there and pile up and then I just kind of check them all randomly."

Clay's $10,000-winning Powerball ticket was from the drawing on Oct. 31. The winning numbers in that drawing were: 2-36-40-49-54 and Powerball 10. Saturday's estimated Powerball jackpot is $50 million.

Clay, who works in Omaha, Neb., matched four white balls and the Powerball in the Oct. 31 drawing to win a $10,000 prize. He purchased his winning ticket at Taylor Quik-Pik, 2102 23rd St. in Harlan. He claimed his prize Monday at the Iowa Lottery's regional office in Council Bluffs.

"I bought it a few weeks ago and then I just had it sitting in my billfold," he said. "I buy quite a few tickets here and there. I just got online (and) checked several different ones and saw this was it."

Clay and his wife, Brianne, said their lottery winnings will be put into a college savings account for their children.

Winning numbers may be checked at the lottery website at www.ialottery.com or through the winning numbers hot line at (515) 323-4633. Winning numbers may also be checked with lottery retail outlets or by calling the lottery at (515) 725-7900 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.
