CLIVE, Iowa — A Buchanan County man who stopped for gas bought a lottery ticket and won a $50,000 prize.
Dane Lyon, 64, of Independence, won the seventh top prize in the Iowa Lottery's "20X Cash" scratch game. He purchased his winning ticket at Kwik Star, 10 First Ave. SE in Oelwein, where he'd stopped to fill up his tank while on a work trip.
"I didn't scratch it until I got home and I'm glad I was sitting down because I would've fell down," Lyon said with a laugh. "I couldn't believe it. I had to look at it I don't know how many times."
Lyon claimed his prize on Tuesday at the lottery's Cedar Rapids regional office. He said he plans to save his winnings for now and perhaps shop for a new car later in the year.
The 20X Cash game is a $5 scratch game that features eight top prizes of $50,000 and overall odds of 1 in 3.40. For more information about this game, and the number of prizes still available, visit www.ialottery.com.
