CLIVE, Iowa — A western Iowa man who won a $50,000 Polaris® certificate in an Iowa Lottery promotion said he had a hunch he might win.
John Hardison of Missouri Valley won the grand prize in the "Explore Iowa" promotion in which players could enter nonwinning tickets from the "Explore Iowa" scratch game for a second chance at a prize.
Hardison said that while visiting with a friend weeks before the promotion entry period ended, he mentioned he'd just purchased a new vehicle for his wife. When his friend asked what he bought, Hardison pointed to his lottery ticket.
"I held my ticket up and said, 'Well, she gets to pick!'" he said with a laugh. "I actually did think I was going to win something."
Hardison's winning entry came on a ticket he purchased at Petro Mart, 1961 Highway 30 in Missouri Valley. He said he and his wife, Jody, hadn't decided which Polaris® vehicle they were going to choose, but they looked forward to exploring their options.
