Eastern Iowa Man Wins $10,000 Lottery Prize

Brian King Claims Big Prize In 'Lucky 7 Bonus' Game

CLIVE, Iowa — An eastern Iowa man bought a lottery ticket on a whim and won a $10,000 prize.

Brian King, 55, of Tipton, won the fourth prize of $10,000 in the Iowa Lottery's "Lucky 7 Bonus" scratch game. He bought his winning ticket at Tiger Mart, 51 Cedar St. in Tipton, shortly before leaving for a vacation in Las Vegas.

"We were just headed to Vegas on our vacation, so 'lucky 7,' you know, it just kind of went together," said King, who claimed his prize Friday at the lottery's Cedar Rapids regional office.

King, who owns an auto body shop, scratched the ticket when he got to work. However, he wasn't quite sure of his big win until he scanned the ticket with the Iowa Lottery mobile app.

"Of course you have the app on your phone where you actually check to see if you won't or not," he said. "I didn't know what it would do, so I hit it and scanned my ticket and it said, 'You won $10,000!' And it's just like, 'Holy smokes! It's real!'"

King said he plans to save his winnings.

Lucky 7 Bonus is a $20 scratch game that features 20 top prizes of $250,000, 76 prizes of $10,000 and overall odds of 1 in 2.88. For more information about this game, and the number of prizes still available, visit www.ialottery.com.
