Marshalltown Man Claims $30,000 Lottery Prize

Ernest Johnson Wins Second Top Prize in New 'Cash Path' Scratch Game

CLIVE, Iowa – A Marshalltown man has claimed a $30,000 lottery prize.

Ernest Johnson won the second of eight top prizes in the Iowa Lottery's "Cash Path" scratch game.

"Seeing what it was, I really didn't believe it," said Johnson, who bought his winning ticket at Kwik Star, 2500 S. Center St. in Marshalltown. "I checked the numbers three times, over and over, and every time I thought, 'Did I really win?' I went back and checked the ticket again, (to) make sure the numbers were right."

Johnson, who bought his ticket last week, said he continued to check his ticket in disbelief until Monday when he arrived at lottery headquarters in Clive to claim his prize.

"It has set in a little bit — I mean, I'm grinning from ear to ear," he said with a laugh. "I'm delighted. I can't express it."

He said the lottery win has provided a sense of relief. He plans to use to use the winnings to pay bills and fix his car.

"It's going to help me a great deal and maybe put some of the worries of – 'When's the next payment going to be, how am I going to make that payment?' – way in the back of my head," Johnson said. "It will make a difference."

Cash Path is a $3 scratch game. More details about how to play this game, and the number of prizes still up for grabs in it, can be found on the Iowa Lottery's website, www.ialottery.com.
