Security Checks At Retail Locations
The Iowa Lottery conducts unannounced security checks at retail locations across the state to see how winning tickets are
being handled. Working undercover, our staffers pose as customers presenting lottery tickets during the compliance checks.
The lottery is working hard to protect the integrity of its games, so be sure to take steps to protect yourself as well.
There have been incidents of theft and fraud involving lottery-ticket redemption in other states, so we need to be vigilant
here. In some of those instances, customers were told their winning tickets hadn't won a prize; winning tickets were switched out
for nonwinners; or players were paid a smaller amount than they'd actually won.
We will continue to conduct security compliance checks at retail locations in Iowa to guard against such issues here.
