Lucky for Life® Draw Game to End This Month

CLIVE, Iowa — The Lucky for Life® draw game will come to an end this month.
The final drawing is scheduled for Feb. 21, with ticket sales here in Iowa ending at 8:30 p.m. that day.
Lucky for Life has been offered in Iowa since January 2016, giving players the chance to win a top prize of $1,000 a day for life or a second-tier prize of $25,000 a year for life. Iowa has seen one top-prize winner during that time, and 23 winners of the Tier-2 prize.
The game appealed to a core group of fans, but sales gradually declined over time as players showed through their purchase habits that they preferred other games. As player interest shifted across the country, the 23 participating lotteries collectively decided to retire the game.
"Game changes like this are never made lightly," said Iowa Lottery CEO Matt Strawn. "We appreciate the loyalty Lucky for Life players have shown over the years, and we remain focused on providing games that offer strong value and excitement while while supporting vital causes in our state."
As part of the game's conclusion, the Iowa Lottery will soon begin a step down on advance plays in the game. Players can normally purchase tickets for up to 10 drawings in advance, but that number will gradually decrease each day leading up the to the game's final drawing:
Players who have already purchased Lucky for Life tickets can be assured that:
- All tickets remain valid through the final drawing
- All prizes can be redeemed within 180 days of the date of the drawing in which they were won
- Existing Lucky for Life annuity prize winners will continue to receive payments
Lucky for Life began in Connecticut in 2009 before expanding throughout New England three years later. Additional lotteries joined in the following years, with Iowa becoming the 18th state to join the game. In 2021, Lucky for Life moved to daily drawings.
