Fort Dodge Man Wins $500,000 Lottery Prize

Cody Thedford Claims Big Powerball® Double Play® Prize

Cody Thedford

CLIVE, Iowa - A Fort Dodge man has won a $500,000 Iowa Lottery prize.

Cody Thedford bought his winning Powerball® Double Play® ticket at Hy-Vee, 115 S. 29th St. in Fort Dodge. He claimed his prize Friday at the lottery's main office in Clive.

Thedford matched five black drawing balls in the Powerball Double Play drawing on June 7. The winning numbers were 6-7-16-22-28 and Powerball 17.

For an extra $1 per play, Powerball players can add the Double Play option to their tickets. The numbers on that ticket are then eligible to win twice – once in the regular Powerball drawing, and once in a separate Double Play drawing.

From now until the morning of June 23, players can use their winning and nonwinning Powerball Double Play tickets (purchased on or after March 20, 2025) to enter the "NASCAR® Race Weekend" promotion. Entries must be made through players' Iowa Lottery VIP Club™ accounts, where they choose from three different prize packages.

Since getting its start in April 1992 in 15 states with jackpots that started at a guaranteed $2 million, Powerball has grown into one of the world's biggest and most recognizable lottery games. Today Powerball is played by 48 lotteries across the country with drawings at 9:59 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.
