CLIVE, Iowa — A central Iowa man has won a $50,000 Powerball® prize.

David Nestler of Altoona matched four of five white balls and the Powerball in Wednesday's drawing. He was one number away from winning that night's $451.2 million jackpot.

Nestler bought his winning ticket at Hy-Vee, 108 Eighth St. SW in Altoona, and claimed his prize Friday at the lottery's main office in Clive.

The winning numbers in Wednesday's drawing were 15-27-43-45-53 and Powerball 9. The Power Play® number was 2. The game's jackpot has continued to grow since then, with Monday's drawing now standing at an estimated $501 million.

Since getting its start in April 1992 in 15 states with jackpots that started at a guaranteed $2 million, Powerball has grown into one of the world's biggest and most recognizable lottery games. Today, Powerball is played by 48 lotteries with drawings at 9:59 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.
