CLIVE, Iowa — A Coon Rapids man scratched his way to a six-figure prize on a quick trip to his local grocery store.
Brent Reineke, 39, won a $100,000 top prize playing the Iowa Lottery's "JURASSIC WORLD" scratch game. He bought his winning ticket at Frolich's Super Valu, 403 Main St. in Coon Rapids.
Reineke said he had gone to the store to pick up supplies for his visiting grandchildren and used his change to buy a couple of tickets.
"I was sitting at the counter scratching and thought it looked kind of weird, so I ran it through the machine," Reineke said. "I didn't get my typical $10 back. I thought the machine had broken. Then they came over and said, 'Well, I think you won $100,000.' I said, 'No, that couldn't have been!'"
He brought the ticket home to his show his wife, Kim, who was just as surprised as he was.
"I pulled the ticket out from my pocket and she was like, 'Shut up! No way!'" he recalled with a laugh.
Reineke said he and his wife plan to save the winnings for a future home purchase.
