CLIVE, Iowa — A northeast Iowa woman bought a lottery ticket after her shift ended and won more than $33,000.
Samantha Bolstad, 30, of New Albin, won a jackpot prize of $33,167.60 in the Iowa Lottery's “MONOPOLY Game Tokens Progressive” InstaPlay game. She bought her lucky ticket at Wuennecke's City Meat Market, 199 Railroad Ave. NW in New Albin.
“I had just gotten off work, and I was supposed to go to my second job right after that,” Bolstad said on Monday as she claimed her prize at the lottery's Mason City regional office. “My coworker sold me the ticket and I looked at her and said, ‘Does this say what I think it does?'”
Bolstad said her big win was hard to fathom.
“Complete disbelief, on a $5 ticket, especially,” she said. “That just not something that you think is going to happen. I was thinking I'd be lucky to get 20 bucks, you know?”
After claiming her prize, Bolstad said she plans to put her winnings toward a house down payment and funding a college savings account for her son.
