Black Hawk County Man Wins $50,000 Lottery Prize

CLIVE, Iowa — A Black Hawk County man bought a lottery ticket on a whim and won a $50,000 prize.
Andrew Shimp, 45, of Washburn, won a top prize in the Iowa Lottery's Fire and Ice 7s” scratch game. He bought his ticket at Pronto, 7305 La Porte Road in Washburn.
“I had played it a couple other times before and had done fairly good on it,” Shimp said.
He said he and his girlfriend were in disbelief after he uncovered one of the game's top prizes and realized they wanted a second opinon to ensure they were seeing correctly.
“My girlfriend and I ran to the store and had them check it,” he said. “Sure enough, it was $50,000.”
After claiming his winnings, Shimp said he plans to put the pay down the loan on his vehicle, share with his family and “have fun this summer.”
