CLIVE, Iowa — A southern Iowa woman said she did a double-take after realizing she'd won a $100,000 lottery prize.
Anna McDonald of Osceola won a top prize in the Iowa Lottery's "$100,000 Mega Crossword" scratch game. The big win came on a ticket her husband, Juan, purchased for her at Casey's, 507 S. Jefferson Way in Indianola.
McDonald said she checked the ticket the next morning at a store, and after a glance at the self-checker, thought she'd won $100. She took it to the counter to redeem.
"The girl says, 'No, it's not $100. It's $100,000!'" McDonald recalled with a laugh. "I said, 'What?!"
McDonald claimed her prize Thursday at the lottery's main office in Clive. She and her husband plan to use the winnings to pay off debt, purchase a new vehicle and help a family member in need.
"It's a really big relief for us," she said.
