CLIVE, Iowa — A Cedar Rapids man bought a scratch ticket on a whim during a stop for soft drinks and won a $50,000 lottery prize.
"I got my Mountain Dew and I got my Pepsi, and the lady asked me, 'Is there anything else you'd like?'" Hunter Rodibaugh recalled on Monday as he claimed his prize at the lottery's Cedar Rapids regional office. "I just looked over and said the first card that popped into mind. I was like, 'Yeah, give me No. 13,' which was the Monopoly™

Rodibaugh, a car salesman, immediately fired off a video to his parents, telling them of his win.
"They called me back and were like, 'Are you kidding? Are you messing with us?' Because I'm a prankster. I like to do jokes and stuff, so they didn't know if I was messing with them or not," he said with a laugh. "I was like, 'No, guys, I am so serious! I scanned it with my Iowa Lottery mobile app and it says I won 50 grand!'"
Once he sent them a screenshot of the lottery app showing the prize amount, they began to believe him.
Rodibaugh said he plans to use his winnings to pay off student loans and buy a set of golf clubs, as well as set some aside for an emergency fund. He added that he won't soon forget his big lottery win.
"It was probably the coolest moment I've ever had in my entire life," he said.
