Storm Lake Man Wins $18,500 in Iowa Lottery Prizes

CLIVE, Iowa — A Storm Lake man has won $18,500 in Iowa Lottery prizes.

Ben Sounnarath hit big in the midday Pick 4 drawing on April 14. Sounnarath bought multiple plays for the drawing and ended up winning on them all.

For $1 each, he purchased two straight plays, where a prize can be won by matching the four winning numbers in a Pick 4 drawing onaly in the exact order drawn. He also purchased two $1 straight/box plays, where a prize can be won by matching the winning numbers in any order. On all four of his plays, he matched the numbers in the exact order drawn: 1-1-8-9.

Sounnarath won $6,000 on each of his straight plays, and $3,250 on each of his straight/box plays for total winnings of $18,500. He purchased his tickets at Brew Oil, 6087 Iowa Highway 110 in Storm Lake. He claimed his prizes April 15 at the lottery's Storm Lake regional office.

Pick 4, which has been offered in Iowa since September 2003, features odds of just 1 in 10,000 of winning the game's $30,000 top prize. It offers a variety of play options and wagers from 50 cents to $5 for the chance to match a four-digit number combination from 0000 to 9999.
