Eastern Iowa Man Wins $10,000 Lottery Prize

CLIVE, Iowa — An eastern Iowa man has won a $10,000 lottery prize.

Michael Bechthold of Monticello won the big prize playing the Iowa Lottery's "Super 7s Progressive" InstaPlay game. He purchased his winning ticket at Karde's Convenience Store, 202 N. Cedar St. in Monticello, and claimed his prize Tuesday at the lottery's Cedar Rapids regional office.

Super 7s Progressive is a $20 lottery game that features a jackpot that starts at $50,000 and increases with each ticket sold statewide until it is won.

The InstaPlay product combines features from instant-scratch and lotto games. InstaPlay tickets are called "scratchless" because they have no security coating that needs to be removed to determine the prize won. And rather than having supplies of tickets printed in advance like those in traditional scratch and pull-tab games, InstaPlay tickets are printed on demand for the lottery terminal.

Since the lottery's start in 1985, its players have won more than $5.7 billion in prizes while the lottery has raised more than $2.4 billion for the state programs that benefit all Iowans.

Today, lottery proceeds help our state in multiple ways. They help Iowa veterans and their families through the Iowa Veterans Trust Fund. They help the families of Iowa peace officers, firefighters and corrections employees who die in the line of duty. And they provide help for a variety of significant projects through the state General Fund.
