West Des Moines Woman to Pay Off Mortgage After $100,000 Lottery Win

CLIVE, Iowa A West Des Moines woman who won $100,000 said she her first thought after realizing her win was paying off her mortgage.
"I'm screaming. I didn't cry, but I'm screaming, 'This is it! This is it! Now I can pay off my house," Diana Rosenberg said on Wednesday as she claimed her prize at lottery headquarters in Clive. "That's been my only goal."
Rosenberg, 70, won the 15th top prize in the Iowa Lottery's "$100,000 Mega Crossword" scratch game. She bought her winning ticket at Fareway, 329 Grand Ave. in West Des Moines.
In the game, players try to complete words in the puzzle with a given set of letters. After scratching off her ticket, Rosenberg said she noticed she'd reached the game's top prize level. She counted her completed words over and over, then scanned the ticket with the Iowa Lottery mobile app, which confirmed her big win.
After a fitful night of sleep, Rosenberg said she told her son about the win the following day.
"He said, 'Why didn't you call me?'" she said. "And I go, 'Well, it was 11:30. You were probably in bed.' He goes, 'I'd wake up for this, Mom!'"
