CLIVE, Iowa — A southeast Iowa woman said she did a double-take after scratching off a $100,000 lottery prize.
“I was shaking so bad that I couldn't hardly even make sure it was real,” Deb Rotenburger said on Tuesday as she claimed her prize at the lottery's Cedar Rapids regional office.
Rotenburger of Fairfield won a top prize in the Iowa Lottery's “The Price is Right” scratch game. She bought her winning ticket at Jet Stop, 121 S. Highway 1 in Birmingham and scratched it when she returned home. When she revealed the big prize, her mind went blank.
“I was too excited to even think,” she said. “I had to look at it more than once and then I took it to my son. I said, 'Is this real?' And we looked and looked and it matched.”
Rotenburger said she plans to use her winnings to pay off her mortgage.
The Price is Right is a $10 scratch game with prizes ranging from $10 to $100,000 and overall odds of 1 in 2.87. From now until 9:59 a.m. on Oct. 14, players can enter nonwinning tickets from the game into a second-chance promotion for a chance to win a trip to Los Angeles and a shot at up to $10 million.
